Improving Education

The Challenge

Schools in the remote villages on the shores of Lake Tanganyika are few and far between. Most have thousands of students and only a handful of teachers, resulting in some schools with classes of more than 100 or 150 students in a class. Often this is due to a lack of housing for teachers and insufficient classrooms.

Additionally, the schools have limited facilities, no computer access and very few books.

Our project

The project is structured in three steps:

  1. Investing in communities by establishing Centres of Learning with computer rooms and libraries where adults and children can learn computer skills and further their education.

  2. Creating good educational environments for teachers and students by building additional classrooms and teacher's housing facilities for local primary and secondary schools.

  3. Investing in youth through teaching good environment management practices for the betterment of the environment and the people.

Our Goals

  • Within 3 years open Centres of Learning in the villages of Kirando, Katangolo and Karungu, with computer rooms and libraries. We have already established a Centre of Learning in Kipili.

  • Within 8 years build additional classrooms and teacher's housing for the primary and secondary schools of Kipili, Kirando, Katangolo, Karungo and the nearby islands.
